This just in: NBC has pulled the plug on the shit-tastic Paul Reiser Show after just two airings, which is three more than it should have gotten in the first place. Next week: Office reruns; no Perfect Couples. ---

What’s new this weekend:
Fringe (Fox, tonight) After last week’s cartoon acid trip (see what you’re missing with this show?), Fringe goes back to that redhead-with-bangs Other Universe tonight, where they’re plotting to fuck up This Universe. By sending over some viable Republican presidential candidates?

Supernatural (The CW, tonight) Sam and Dean go time-travelin’ again—this time (ha!), to the Old West. Prepare for chaps and Village People jokes galore.

Talking Funny (HBO, tonight) Ricky Gervais hosts a roundtable discussion with Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Louis C.K. about how to be funny. Tellingly, Paul Reiser was not invited.

Also new tonight:
Shark Tank (ABC); Smallville (The CW); Sanctuary (Syfy); The Whitest Kids U’Know (IFC); Camelot (Starz); The Soup (E!)

Doctor Who (BBC America, Saturday) Season Premiere—in Utah! Read all about it in True TV (Item 3).

Chase (NBC, Saturday) Burn-Off Alert: Remember that show about the lady U.S. Marshal? No, not In Plain Sight on USA—that one’s not canceled. Anyway, the final five new episodes of Chase begin tonight. Maybe look for The Paul Reiser Show here in a few weeks … if no one can find the old test patterns.

Cinema Verite (HBO, Saturday) A dramatization of the Loud family’s groundbreaking 1970s An American Family series—the original reality show—starring Tim Robbins, Diane Lane and James Gandolfini. As always, Lane is great—but she’ll always be Ellen in Streets of Fire to me:

Also new Saturday:
Cops, America’s Most Wanted (Fox); Roadkill (Syfy); It’s Me or the Dog, Cats 101 (Animal Planet); Jon Lovitz Presents (Showtime)

Treme (HBO, Sunday) Season Premiere: Read all about it in True TV (Item 1).

Desperate Housewives (ABC, Sunday) It’s Still On: So … at one point does this just morph into The Golden Girls?

Also new Sunday:
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Brothers & Sisters (ABC); The Amazing Race, Beyond the Blackboard (CBS); America’s Next Great Restaurant, Celebrity Apprentice (NBC); Shark Men (NatGeo); The Real Housewives of Orange County (Bravo); Breakout Kings (A&E); The Killing (AMC); The Borgias (Showtime); Superjail (Adult Swim)

Preview: Desperate Housewives, Mexican soap opera or The Golden Girls?
