The St. Regis Big Stars Bright Nights summer concert series at Deer Valley was announced today, and a fat slab of Memphis soul is among the highlights.---
The season-opening gig is easily the must-see in my book. Memphis Soul: The Sound of STAX Records will offer a ton of American classics, played by some of the legends that originally played in the STAX house band, guys like Steve Cropper (pictured) and Donald "Duck" Dunn, who were also part of the Blues Brothers Band after their STAX heyday. You have no idea how stoked I am to see and hear those dudes in the flesh.
The rest of the schedule ranges from pop to the world-beat sound of Playing for Change.
Tickets go on sale at the Eccles Center in Park City on May 9, and will be available online via the Eccles Center Website on May 11.
Here's the complete lineup:
July 3: Memphis Soul: The Music of STAX Records
