Lounge Act Weekend: Marathons, farewells and Record Store Day

Marathons, theater and a little thing called Record Store Day await this weekend.---

There's so much going on this weekend that the only way to get a full grasp is to check out our complete listings. But I'll focus on a few events with particular appeal to this guy.

Friday is, of course, SLC Gallery Stroll, and there are new shows opening across town. With the weather actually seeming somewhat spring-like today, it might prove to be an ideal eve for a stop at, say, Art Access Gallery or Kayo Gallery.

Friday is also the official opening of Salt Lake Acting Company's Circle Mirror Transformation, the season-ending comedy that sounds like another winner from the theater.

Friday is also the final show by Provo's Shark Speed, who will be playing at Velour. Read this fond farewell to Shark Speed by longtime fan Spencer Flanagan, and if you're in Utah County Friday night, be sure to stop by its best music venue for this gig.

Wiseguys in Trolley Square is hosting Rich Vos, a standup I've seen a few times on TV, and he seems like a worthy night out for some yuks.

Saturday is just full of fun. It starts with the Salt Lake City Marathon, which will be a pain to deal with if you're trying to drive around early Saturday morning, but it's fun to hunker down and cheer on the runners as they pass along the race route. Thankfully, the runners pass right by my street, so you'll find me in a bathrobe, coffee in hand.

And you've probably heard about a little thing called Record Store Day, when music dorks celebrate a slew of exclusive releases from their fave bands designed to support the independent record stores that have survived the tumultuous music-biz shenanigans of the past decade. Read all about Record Store Day here, including all the great live music affiliated with the celebration at Utah's record stores.

Saturday night, the excellent Cave Singers (pictured) headline at Kilby Court; read our interview with the band, then go check 'em out, playing with Spell Talk. Comic Lily Tomlin performs at Kingsbury Hall and Imagine Dragons host an EP release party at Velour in Provo.
