Lounge Act Thursday: Great tunes, Irish dance and urban planning

Thursday we're celebrating the Best of Utah issue that will no doubt take most of your weekend to read, but that's not keeping us from hitting the town for some of the cool things going down.---
Take the Lukas Nelson concert at The State Room, where the Son of Willie will be doing the scorching blues-rock thing he does so well in front of a sold-out house. Linger around the front door to score a ticket from a scalper, or check out the Internet, because the 22-year-old singer/guitarist is worth the effort.
At Slowtrain's Subterranean, another fine option awaits courtesy of Weinland (pictured) and Provo's own Desert Noises, doing a show in the basement that should be a great one; Weinland's in the process of road-testing material for a new album to be recorded later this year, but if their last release, Breaks in the Sun, is any indication, the night will be full of great songs.
The Urban Lounge hosts the Chicago rockers Smoking Popes, touring in support of their new set This Is Only a Test, a concept album of sorts. Expect hooks for days at this gig. And expect hits for days at the Eddie Money gig at The Depot, with the Sam Smith Band opening.
At Kingsbury Hall, Riverdance starts a four-day run, in case you want to get a crazy Irish dance groove on, while The Ready Set headlines a monster-sized bill at The Complex, and Mack 10 does the same at Elevate.
Up at The King's English, author Tim Sullivan (formerly of The Salt Lake Tribune and City Weekly freelancer) reads from his new book No Communication from the Sea: Searching for an Urban Future in the Great Basin, a look at the West's uniquely urban growth patterns.
