Lounge Act Wednesday: Rockabilly queens and The Real World SLC!

Could you be one of the young hotties who gets loaded every day and hot tubs with a collection of borderline-braindead fellow 20-somethings? You bet you can!---

MTV's long-running hit show The Real World is in town Wednesday hosting auditions for its 26th season at Lumpy's Downtown from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The only requirement—besides a healthy liver and low self-esteem, I'm guessing—is that you be older than 18, and "appear to be between 18 and 24."

On the opposite end of the spectrum of worthy pursuits, consider hitting the Wanda Jackson show at The State Room. The rockabilly queen (pictured) is a robust 74 and still going strong; her most recent album, The Party Ain't Over, was produced by Jack White, and seeing the former girlfriend of Elvis rock out should be a treat. At the very least, it's rock and roll history, right in your face.

Elsewhere on the music tip, Muscle Hawk headlines a gig at The Hotel/Elevate, and Toro Y Moi headlines at The Urban Lounge,

If you're into free flicks, and who isn't, the City Weekly Street Team is hosting a free screening of My Own Private Idaho, one of Gus Van Sant's best, at Brewvies Wednesday at 8 p.m. Get there early for a seat. Hard to believe that movie is 20 years old.

And up at the U at Kingsbury Hall, author and cultural critic bell hooks will speak at 7:30 p.m.
