Tuesday seems like a perfect chance to delve into a little book-learnin', courtesy of Salt Lake City's local booksellers and libraries.---

This week's literary feast starts at the Main Library, where author Michael Ondaatje (pictured) will be on hand for a series of events beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m., when he will read from selections of his published and unpublished works. On Wednesday, there will be a free screening of the film adaptation of what might be Ondaatje's most famous work, The English Patient, at 2 p.m., and he will again appear at 7 p.m. to discuss the film and his thoughts on the book.

At Sam Weller's at 6 p.m., Utah author Dan Wells reads from I Do Not Want to Kill You, his trilogy tracking sociopathic teenage thrill-seeker and demon-battler John Wayne Cleaver. Meanwhile, up at The King's English, young-adults author Carrie Ryan will appear at 7 p.m. to read from her latest, The Dark and Hollow Places, part of her The Forest of Hands and Teeth series.

The Urban Lounge offers some raucous garage-rock courtesy of Detroit's Electric Six, along with openers King Niko, while Kilby Court hosts Foster the People, Grouplove and Lesands. The State Room is hosting anthemic Brit-rockers Trashcan Sinatras, acoustic-style, in their first U.S. tour in years.

For the more classically inclined, consider a visit to Libby Gardner Concert Hall Tuesday for the Gifted Music School Spring Gala benefit concert, starting at 7 p.m. The orchestra from the school will be conducted by Eugene Watanabe.
