Lounge Act Wednesday: OMG! It's OMD!

In the long list of bands I never thought we'd ever hear from again after their '80s heyday, OMD certainly was near the top.---

Silly me, underestimating the power of the synth-pop and its rabid subculture of fans. Not only is OMD (pictured) back and on tour, stopping for a headlining gig Wednesday at The Depot; they have a new album, History of Modern, that's gotten many critical huzzahs, and their live shows at SXSW last week were well received (except maybe by the four fans who were taken to the hospital when a camera crane collapsed on them during OMD's show at Stubb's BBQ). I never had much time for OMD back when "If You Leave" from Pretty in Pink became a prom theme for the ages, but I've gotten more amenable to synthesizers in my old age, and the new tunes are at least as good as anything on the new Duran Duran album. Anyone planning on seeing opening buzz act Oh Land should note that she's no longer on the bill.

Up the hill, you can catch Uh Huh Her headlining at The Urban Lounge, with Diamonds Under Fire opening. Railroad Earth and the Infamous Stringdusters are playing a show at Harry O's in Park City.

Kilby Court is hosting what is likely the show of the night, courtesy of Telekinesis. You can read our interview with Telekinesis band leader Michael Benjamin Lerner right here, and then go check out the show at 7 p.m.
