What’s new this weekend:
The Walking Dead Marathon (AMC, tonight) Yes, another one—easy to do when Season 1 was only six episodes long. Still, there must be somebody out there who hasn’t seen it yet, and the DVD set arrives next Tuesday … Oh, I get it now.
The Defenders (CBS, tonight) Against all odds/taste/logic, The Defenders (about two Las Vegas lawyers, played by Jerry O’Connell and Jim Belushi) is actually doing better on Fridays than in its original Wednesday slot. Must be the hot guest-appearance gets—like tonight’s Kathy Griffin cameo, playing a stand-up comic (stretch!) who’s being sued by an audience member whom she offended (double stretch!).
Also new tonight:
Supernanny (ABC); Who Do You Think You Are? (NBC); NAACP Awards (Fox); Smallville, Superatural (The CW); The Onion News Network (IFC); Ghost Adventures, Merlin (Syfy); The Ricky Gervais Show, Real Time With Bill Maher (HBO); The Soup (E!)
Saturday Night Live (NBC/CW30, Saturday) In what could be the defining moment of her career (sure, why not?), Miley Cyrus hosts Saturday Night Live. Years ago, Britney Spears hosted and surprised everyone with her comic chops—and then slinked back to mediocrity. At least Miley’s not singing; SNL’s leaving that to The Strokes. Oh, and count on a Miley Cyrus Talk Show sketch.
Also new Saturday:
Being Human (BBC America); America's Most Wanted, Cops (Fox); Must Love Cats (Animal Planet); An Idiot Abroad (Science)
America’s Next Great Restaurant (NBC, Sunday) Series Debut: “Investors” Bobby Flay, Curtis Stone, Steve Ells and Lorene Garcia chop 21 restaurateur hopefuls down to 10; the ultimate winner several weeks from now will get to open their own joint. Even though the producers have previously launched two of TV’s only not-horrible reality-competition shows, Top Chef and Project Runway, this looks as doomed as a high-end restaurant in a Provo strip mall.
The Celebrity Apprentice (NBC, Sunday) Season Premiere: And what a list of “celebrities” it is: Hope Dworaczyk, La Toya Jackson, Star Jones, NeNe Leakes, Marlee Matlin, Lisa Rinna, Niki Taylor, Dionne Warwick, Jose Canseco, David Cassidy, Richard Hatch, Lil Jon, Meat Loaf, Mark McGrath, John Rich and the man who was #Winning crazy before it was cool, Gary Busey.
Army Wives (Lifetime, Sunday) Season Premiere: This is still on? No shit? Huh …
Breakout Kings (A&E, Sunday) Series Debut: Read all about it in True TV (Item 1).
Taking on Tyson (Animal Planet, Sunday) Series Debut: Read all about it in True TV (Item 2).
Big Love (HBO, Sunday) Time’s running out for the Henricksons and Big Love—it’s all coming down in the final episodes. Alby (and pretty much the entire state of Utah) is going to take down Bill! And now they’re coming after allegedly-complicit Barb, too! Nicki’s in trouble at the Compound (again)! Margene’s Xango, er, Goji Blast pyramid scheme is unraveling! Home Plus is more fucked than ever! Fittingly, this episode is titled “The Noose Tightens”; only two—two!—left after this.
Also new Sunday:
Secret Millionaire, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters (ABC); The Amazing Race, Undercover Boss, CSI:Miami (CBS); American Dad, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show (Fox); The Real Housewives of Atlanta (Bravo); Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Holly’s World (E!); Californication, Shameless (Showtime)
Preview: How was Barb to know Margene was underage on Big Love? She's always looked 16 ...
