Lounge Act Tues.: Heartless Bastards, DeVotchKa, Women's Voices

What better way to launch a new month than a rather epic night for live music, including blues-rock, gypsy-folk and women's voices.?---
Let's start with DeVotchKa, the Denver-based gypsy-folk crew that's gone from playing Bar Deluxe (then Ego's) a couple times a year to scoring Oscar-winning movies like Little Miss Sunshine in just a few years. The band's latest, 100 Lovers, is released today, and the band is in town for a show sure to thrill fans with its creative sounds, not to mention imaginative stage show. Jeremy Asay interviewed DeVotchKa and you can read that before you hit the show at In The Venue at 8 p.m.
While that show's going on, I'll be over at The State Room where the Heartless Bastards (pictured) and Truth & Salvage Co. are playing what is sure to be a scorcher. Truth & Salvage are headliners in their own right, touring in support of a debut album produced by The Black Crowes' Chris Robinson, but tonight they'll be opening for the Austin-based Heartless Bastards, led by the steel-piped singer/guitarist Erika Wennerstrom. Heartless Bastards are currently on the road with Drive-By Truckers, but they're using an off day to stop by Salt Lake City, where they sold out The State Room last time they came through. If you haven't seen Heartless Bastards yet, you should make a point of doing so, pronto! The show starts at 8 p.m.
Elsewhere, The Urban Lounge has a hot hip-hop show featuring Ugly Duckling along with local faves Pat Maine, MC Pigpen, Street Jesus and Cavelight Captains.
The Women's Voices Festival that has includes events up and down the Wasatch Front has a worthy stop at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts today, when from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be walking tours featuring pieces from female artists. And at 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, the Women's Voices Fest continues with a lecture by Repertory Dance Theatre's founder and exec director Linda Smith, discussing women's voices in the dance world.
