Gallery Stroll Best Bets

For pedestrians moving about tonight, it makes perfect sense to stroll from one end of downtown to the other to cover the most ground and to get beyond the central pocket along Broadway. So, logistically-speaking, I’ve started in the northeast at Alpine Art and moved west to end the evening at Art Access.
The funky Alpine Art space on South Temple will host a group show of modern photography called Simply Photography 2011. Starting early, at 5 p.m., a DJ makes for a lively atmosphere entertaining multiple senses. Alpine is an excellent way to end the evening as well.
Phillips Gallery will host New Work-Mixed Media by artist Dave Malone (pictured above).
On Broadway, Kayo Gallery has Round 7 - Kayo Anniversary Group Show and, around the corner, FICE Gallery will have the rock photographer Ricky Powell’s famous NYC shots up for their final day.
On 400 South, in between the two pockets of galleries, Blonde Grizzly has something for sports fans, specifically Utah Jazz fans—which might be too timely with Sloan resigning—in a Jazz-themed show (pictured below) to include local stalwarts Sri Whipple, Dan Christofferson, Trent Call and more.
After snoozing into a long slump, Pierpont Avenue is waking up—his month with two interesting shows. Gray Wall will host a group show, while McGrew Studios will have a bit more, ahem, revealing show all about undies called Underwear? Under There!%uFFFD
Creativity under constraint is the theme for Nox Contemporary Gallery’s second exhibition since opening. Nox gave six local artists an over-sized number two pencil and six hours last Saturday; the outcome is Drawn (pictured below).
End the evening at the Art Access galleries with two shows as part of Women’s Voices Festival: Big Eyed Women, a group show, and work by Sarinda Jones.
Beyond these selections there are plenty of excellent galleries and artists to appreciate. If you have time, hit them all up.
