Lounge Act Weekend: CWMA Final Showcase, Public Enemy, Say Hi

In anticipation of jury duty on Friday, I'm giving you the weekend's highlights early. It's up to you to take those tips and run with 'em.---
The big to-do this weekend is, naturally, the City Weekly Music Awards final showcase Saturday at The Complex. The three finalists—Lindsay Heath Orchestra, Cory Mon & the Starlight Gospel and King Niko—will all perform, and the people on hand will vote for the ultimate winner. We'll also have the winner of the 2011 CWMA DJ Spinoff on hand, and Flash n Flare will keep the party rocking after the bands have played. Get your butts down there, vote, and enjoy some of the finest local tunes Utah has to offer. The doors open at 9 p.m., show starts at 9:30, and cover is $10.
To get warmed up for Saturday's festivities, consider a couple of the hot shows going down Friday night. You have the hip-hop legends Public Enemy headlining a gig at The Depot that also includes Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and Chali 2Na. I'll be there for sure, and you can read our interview with PE's Chuck D right here. Also on Friday, Say Hi headlines a show at Kilby Court, and it should be a killer. Another good'un is at Bar Deluxe Friday, where Murder By Death and The Builders and the Butchers will be playing another show sure to sell out. And up at The Urban Lounge, our friends at SLUG are hosting their 22nd birthday party, featuring the most excellent Max Pain & the Groovies among others.
On Saturday, the only excuse you have for being a wee bit late to the CWMA final showcase is if you check out Smith Westerns at Kilby Court for what should be a great show.
