Lounge Act Weekend: City Weekly Music Awards, Round 2

This weekend marks the second weekend of City Weekly Music Awards showcases, and there's a little something for everybody courtesy of the dozen local bands playing Friday and Saturday.---
If you missed out on the CWMA fun last weekend, check out how it went down with this roundup of the action. Consider it prep work for doing this weekend's shows proper.
Friday night, Burt's Tiki Lounge is the host to a CWMA night of metal, metal and more metal. INVDRS, Killbot and Ravings of a Madman fill the bill for this showcase, and I highly recommend bringing your earplugs, along with a willingness to bang thy head proudly.
Up the road at The Urban Lounge, it's a tasty CWMA evening of pop-tinged rock and experimental fare, coming at you from The Future of the Ghost, Birthquake and Night Sweats. Instead of head-banging, this show pretty much requires an attitude and ability to get a groove on.
Saturday night, the City Weekly Music Award action moves to Bar Deluxe and The Woodshed.
At Bar Deluxe, the CWMA showcase features the electrifying ukulele goddess S.L.F.M., dynamic duo Palace of Buddies and always entertaining Muscle Hawk in what should be a nicely eclectic evening. Over at The Woodshed, the showcase features the entrancing Lindsay Heath Orchestra, troubador David Williams and orchestral-poppers La Farsa. You can't go wrong with either of these showcases, and they're close enough together to bounce back and forth; remember, one cover charge gets you in both shows.
Beyond the City Weekly Music Awards shows, there are a few things worth noting this weekend.
Friday night, adolescent rockers Stankbot Tyranny headlines a CD release show at Mo's Neighborhood Grill, while Ice Cube headlines a free gig on Ogden's Historic 25th Street as part of the Winter Dew Tour.
Saturday night, long-time Utah folklorist Hal Cannon (pictured)—former member of bands like the Deseret String Band and currently in Red Rock Rondo—hosts a CD release party for his self-titled solo debut at The State Room. Read our interview with Hal Cannon here and then hit the show before you go to the CWMA showcase of your choice.
If you're looking for some Valentine's Day-related date material a couple days early, the Stacey Kent show at the Sheraton City Center should do the trick; the jazz chanteuse is relentlessly entertaining in her approach to jazz standards from all eras.
