Consider Tuesday a perfect storm of opportunities to stretch your brain at some intriguing discussions with authors across the valley.---

Need an example? Westminster College is hosting a discussion on the always timely battle over water, with a 7 p.m. free discussion on Water: The Epic Struggle of Wealth, Power & Civilization. This doesn't simply cover the familiar ground of the American West; author Steven Solomon  offers the first-ever narrative portrait of the power struggles, personalities and breakthroughs that have shaped humanity from antiquity’s earliest civilizations to today’s modern society. from the Roman Empire through the American Industrial Revolution. (Sorry--this was an error in terms of when Solomon would appear. His talk is actually March 8. Same time, same place)

(Or if you'd be more interested in a film dissecting the world water crisis, the Salt Lake Main Library has a free screening of the documentary Flow at 7 p.m.)

The REI on 33rd South is hosting Bruce Tremper, the long-time Director of the Utah Avalanche Center and the author of Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain, for a discussion on The Science of Avalanches. It's also free, and starts at 7 p.m.

And The King's English is hosting an author chat with Debbie Jorde at 7 p.m., when the author will discuss her book Eight Fingers and Eight Toes, a memoir about raising two children with the disabling disorder known as Miller syndrome.
