Lounge Act Monday: Fine Arts Fun Day

Slow and low—that's how we're rolling on this final day of January.---

While many of us recover from various Sundance-related festivities, and others from a weekend that featured a bevy of sold-out concerts from the likes of RJD2, Little Dragon and Slash, Monday night seems a good one for "takin' 'er easy," as they say. So why not take in some of the fine art available in the valley?

A few worthy options: the always underrated Utah Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley City has an excellent show called Art for the Soul, featuring work by nine black artists.

Mestizo Coffeehouse also has an intriguing show up, documenting the plight of children of undocumented residents. The show is called DREAMers: Living in the Shadow of Hope, and you can enjoy some of the tastiest java in town while you're there.

And at the Salt Lake City Main Library, Sherman Bloom: Rocks and Flowers is the work of a retired physician and medical scientist who found himself drawn to photography after his days in medicine were over.

And if you find yourself jonesing for some music, the pop-rockers Atomic Tom, who made a splash with their iPhone "concert" on a New York subway last fall, are headlining at Kilby Court; you can check out the video right here. And you can get a little hip-hop at Bar Deluxe, courtesy of Sadistick & Sarks, Dusk One and Drunken Masters.
