(Men's) Roller Derby: Uinta Madness Saturday

The modern roller-derby movement is almost exclusively associated with women; usually, the only dudes you see on the track are referees. But what happens when refs (and male fans) get the itch to compete themselves? Men’s roller derby. ---

Uinta Madness, Utah’s only men’s roller-derby league (and an offshoot of Wasatch Roller Derby), formed in December 2009 but haven’t found many other regional dude leagues to play against. Today’s derby is still a woman’s world, but the male version rolls slightly harder and more aggressively—mostly due to build, but maybe partially because of the derisive nickname “dangle derby.”

This Saturday, Jan. 22, Uinta faces some other bros: Boise, Idaho’s Capital City Skull Crushers, at the Derby Warehouse (1417 S. 700 West #15); doors at 5:30 p.m., bout at 6. Admission is whatever you feel like donating, and be advised that there’s no beer at the Derby Warehouse.
