TV Weekend: Ricky Gervais, Miss America, Denis Leary, Big Love

What’s new this weekend:
The Ricky Gervais Show (HBO, tonight) Season Premiere: The animated versions of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and the incomparable Karl Pilkington return for Season 2—who’da thunk you could get this much mileage out of a podcast? Obviously not me. Tonight, Karl reflects on camping, a horror-movie pitch, his girlfriend’s parents and a general dislike of Australia while Gervais and Merchant mock him mercilessly.
Human Target (Fox, Tonight) Two Back-to-Back Eps, Moved from Wednesday: I’ll continue to pimp Human Target, though it may be as futile as my Terriers campaign—Fox is going to continue to bump the show all over the schedule into February before saying buh-bye (likely forever) after the season finale (if it makes it that far). So, watch it as hard as you can right now, Target-heads.

The Miss America Pageant (ABC, Saturday) Didya know they still do this? It’s true—tell your mom and your gay friends. Chris Harrison and Brooke Burke host the 90th (!) annual babes, bikinis ‘n’ bon mots event not live from a Las Vegas strip mall.
Saturday Night Live (NBC, Saturday) Gwyneth Paltrow hosts; Cee-Lo performs his hit song that’s sure to be the “Mambo No. 5” of 2016, when “Fuck You” is an acceptable greeting in polite society. Hell, I’m using it now.
CSI: Miami (CBS, Sunday) Roller-Derby Plotline Alert: Only three years pop-culturally late, Horatio and the CSI team investigate a murder at a women’s roller-derby match. “Looks like this one … got rolled hard and put away dead.” Yeeeaaahhh!!!! Too-funny bonus preview clip:
Denis Leary & Friends: Douchebags & Donuts (Comedy Central, Sunday) Denis Leary, fellow white-guy comics like Lenny Clarke and Adam Ferrara (stars of Rescue Me) and white-hot comedienne Whitney Cummings (star of several of my dreams) take on the douchebags of today’s world, and then something about donuts.
Big Love (HBO, Sunday) Season Premiere: The fifth and final season begins—read all about it in True TV (Item 1).
