We're going to make a concerted effort around here to expand our artistic horizons, and we're starting today with a bevy of cool gallery shows worth your while.---

At the Sorenson Unity Center, Salt Lake artist Derek Dyer, renowned for his record-breaking disco ball and founding of the Utah Arts Alliance, has a show of his photography called Glitter People up through Feb. 4.  Over at Fresh, the Bundle Up Group Show features the works of Marina Atherton, Brad Barker, Paul Baird and Jayson Ross; collectively, they make for a show that should be a refreshing change from staid gallery shows.

A trip to Park City might be in the offing, thanks to the one-two punch at the Kimball Art Center of an Ansel Adams (pictured) show featuring his early works (and who doesn't love the nature shooter's work?) and Amy Pruzan: Reflections, in which the Seattle artist combines painting, sculpture and metal work into intriguing figures.

If you're looking for something a bit different, check out the Rumi Poetry Club at the Anderson-Foothill Library, and if you need some tunes tonight, Marinade, Deadhorse Anonymous and Timmy Anderson are playing at The Urban Lounge.
