New Solar Map of SLC Available

Citizens who are solar-curious can now enter their home or business address into a SLC map and calculate how much energy a shiny new panel might soak up.---
The map was crafted through a partnership between Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County and the Utah Clean Energy. The map itself is the work of the Denver based Critigen company, who designed the map to be a DIY tool for Salt Lake City residents curious about how much sun might be hitting the roof of their property.
The map available here, allows the user to enter their address into a locater bar, where they can then draw a map around the possible panel site. Then the map applies different layers for sunlight intensity and duration, to give the user an idea of exactly how hot that roof might get—and how much energy they might collect as a result.
The mapping system is accurate enough to take into account the three dimensional presence of structures, buildings, and even trees. With the ability to draw custom maps, residents are given information on what kind of solar can be installed in the area, how much electricity would be generated and the potential cost of the system.
