Consider Thursday the start of the weekend, 'cause there's so much going on tonight, half of you will be calling in sick on Friday.---
Let's start with a good cause. Down at Kilby Court, a slew of bands including King Niko (pictured), Discourse, Blackhounds, Mason Jones and the Get Togethers, Damir Hara and All Things Going Brightly are playing a benefit for local music scenester Corey Thomas, an uninsured avid fan and promoter of SLC music who was in an accident and needs help with the bills. Check out our profile of King Niko here, then go to the show tonight and lend a hand.
Country crooner Phil Vassar is headlining a gig at The Westerner Club; here's hoping the mechanical bull is running. And soulful hip-hopper Raashan Ahmad is headlining at Bar Deluxe Thursday. Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband are doing their Christmas extravaganza Thursday at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. Those boys are some mean pickers; check out our new profile of the band and this show right here.
And finally, end your night with a drop-in at Club Edge's 2nd annual Ugly Sweater Party, where the City Weekly Street Team will be throwing down and you can see a performance from Miss City Weekly Drew Landerman, among others. Some of the evening's proceeds will go to benefit the People with AIDS Christmas Fund.
