As we approach the end of the year we still have a few bands trying to get releases in before 2010 closes out. --- Four musicians have release shows this week, and checking around these seem to be the last official localized releases for 2010. To kick things off we start tonight over at Kilby Court which hosts the latest from Discourse. The melodic rock trio out of Centerville have been making the rounds over the past year, riding off their 2009 self-titled EP. But over the summer the group buckled down and belted out their first full-length album, Sparks With Our Hands. Pretty good effort on their part with a polished recording sounding better than others in the genre, it'll be interesting to see how they do over the next year. You can catch their release show tonight along with Blackhounds, King Nico, Mason Jones & The Get Togethers, All Things Glowing Brightly and Damir Hara. Important notice for this show is that all the proceeds are going to support Corey Thomas. For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Corey, she's a localized music promoter who works with places like Kilby, as well as The Avalon, In The Venue and Murray Theater among others. Back in September she suffered a traumatic seizure that resulted in 60 stitches and several expensive medical bills without insurance. And it didn't help matters that she suffered a second seizure in late October. So everything from this show (as well as any generous donations on the side) will go to help pay her bills. Please go check it out and show you support. Tickets are $7 starting at 6:30PM.

Then Saturday night sees a holiday release from our buddies in Theta Naught. That's right, just a couple months after they released their latest album's worth of original work, the group return with a Christmas album, aptly titled Naught Christmas. Ten solid tracks of favorites including “Carol Of The Bells”, “Little Drummer Boy”, “I Saw Three Ships” and “Come, All Ye Faithful”. All specially arranged in the band's unique style with its full compliment of members and guest performers. You can check out a full performance at NoBrow Coffee & Tea this Saturday evening at 7PM, totally free.

Meanwhile, Bar Deluxe plays host to the debut release from Fizzy Form! Fizzy has been around with the Self Expression crew for a while now, recently busting his rhymes on the Bees Knees Tour with some of Utah's finest. Now he's finally got a full collection together for his freshman release,
Get Fizzical. The album keeps a smooth vibe throughout with select tracks produced by Trench Diggs, Paff Stuff, J.F. Bling, Brisk and Finale. A decent hip-hop album to end the year on, which is saying something considering how little we had locally in 2010. Celebrating his release on stage will be Jef Doogie, GeorgeLife, Human Gene, DJ 2Be, and a special appearance from Rich Again. Show kicks off at 8PM on Saturday night, $5 presale and $10 at the door.

Speaking of GeorgeLife, a quick shout-out about his album release that passed us by. George is one of the hardest working performers we know, busting his ass on national tours and getting thew word out of hip-hop in Utah. So imagine our shock when we saw his latest release,
Against The Grain, pass everyone by without any proper introduction. A very awesome follow-up to his first twenty-track album, simply titled GeorgeLife. If you head out to the Fizzy Form show, I highly suggest you hit up George for his new one while he's still in town.

And then next Wednesday, just before the holiday nights kick in, we see the debut release from trudging rockers, Holy Water Buffalo. The Heber City natives have been playing around here and there, mostly doing outdoor festivals and occasional gigs on both sides of the Wasatch Front. Though we're pretty sure most of you haven't heard of them until last week when they won Velour's Winter BOTB event. Over the summer and fall the band got to work perfecting their self-titled debut release, which after hearing both sample tracks and live versions, makes for a really good rock album. Like the home of the Three Bears, not too hard and not too soft, just the right amount of both. Their official release show actually happens at Harry O's up in Park City on the 22
nd, kicking off around 9:30PM with opening act Dirty Blonde. But for those of you who can't make it up there next week, fear not. The group will be playing two more release shows for different audiences, first one being on December 28th at Urban Lounge for the older crowd with Red Dog Revival and Max Pain & The Groovies. And an all-ages show at Kilby Court on December 30th with others TBD.
