The pages of our fine publication can only contain so many suggestions for your weekend diversions. Here are a few more arts and entertainment options for a December weekend. ---

Opening tonight, the Grand Theatre hosts its 9th annual Community Celebration of Handel's Messiah. The Grand Voice choir -- led by composer and conductor B Murphy (pictured), a former touring member of The Platters -- provides a rich, soulful interpretation of the classic holiday music. A variety of guest soloists and narrators join the production each night. Performances are Dec. 10, 11 and 13, with tickets starting at $8.

On Saturday, Gray Wall Gallery hosts a special free-to-the-public event for those who may want to help support local artists while they do their Christmas shopping. Thirteen local artists have provided pieces ideal in size and cost for gift-giving, including hats, scarves, prints, pottery and recycled jewelry. Live music and refreshments will provide the background from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Gray Wall Gallery is located at 351 W. Pierpont Ave., 2B.

Another special art event takes place tonight at FICE Gallery, 160 E. 200 South. Stefan Hoffman, from the Seattle-based artistic collective Spacecraft, collaborates with local artists Dan Christofferson and Mike Murdock for "Spacecraft Saints--and the downfall of modern man." The featured mixed-media works include 13 wooden boxes, with (according to a press release) "13 saints depicted in modern day modality using tarot card format." The event is free, but to ages 21 and up only, as sponsor Pabst Blue Ribbon will be giving away free beer; Spacecraft's unique fair-trade works will also be given away.
