Vintage Holiday Fashion Show

I shouted melodiously when I heard details of the Beehive Tea Room's Holiday Fashion Show, happening Thursday, Dec. 2.---

Because the event (being held 7-9:30 pm) leaps out of the Christmas box, out of the drone of typical holiday events and into an exhilarating world of Mad Men. Owner of the Tea Room, Lisa Brady, would like to introduce to you Salt Lake City's diverse beauty with its local business owners modeling the vintage apparel sold at Missy Baber's Misc. Boutique. It will be an evening of sophisticated socialization and classy cocktails, swirled with '50s and '60s holiday apparel.

Of course, all ticket-holders are invited to take the time to dress up for the occasion, something Brady admires from the '50s era and contributes to her Tea Room. She said at the time of Mad Men, everybody looked smashing because it was important to spend time getting ready, and looking gorgeous each time they exited their home. It didn't matter if they were attending a lunch date or simply shopping at the grocery store. Brady says these days, it is too common to see citizens in public, lazily wearing lumpy sweats and muddy slippers.

But what Brady and her accomplices are most thrilled about (apart from the vintage apparel and vibrant night-life of the Tea Room. Oh and cocktails), is the featuring of local small business owners. SLUG editor Angela Brown and Gentry Blackburn of Frosty Darling will attend, along with five or six other business owners, male and female. The event is, after all, in conjunction with "Buy Local First Week," which is from Nov. 26 - Dec. 4.

Brady noted that with the economy, many of Salt Lake's business owners have been working especially hard to cultivate an enticing and unique experience for all citizens. Having events like these reminds citizens what enchanting smells, tastes and sites to see await them.

I am literally bouncing around the room just thinking about this classy event that awaits Thursday. I highly advise you don't miss this fantastic opportunity to mingle with local business owners and see what cultural experiences they have to offer.
