Violence -- of both the supernatural and all-too-human kind -- mark the films making their move to discount theaters this weekend. ---

At the top of the list is writer/director Matt Reeves' remake of the Swedish vampire drama Let Me In. Chloe Grace Moretz stars as the eternally pubescent bloodsucker who befriends a troubled young boy (the terrific Kodi Smit-McPhee). The young performances turn this into something that's less a horror movie than a doomed existential romance. The Cinemark theaters in Sugar House and Valley Fair Mall are among the venues bringing the cost down this week.

Aging almost as gracefully as the young undead is George Clooney, who plays the title role as a veteran killer contemplating retirement in The American. Clooney's thoughtful performance and the oh-so-European pacing work for a little while, but eventually the script's cliches become overwhelming.
