Lounge Act Thursday: Free Social D, telemark skis and smart talk

Whether you're old-school, new-school or in school, Thursday night in Salt Lake City has something to offer. And if you don't have lunch plans, how about a free Social Distortion show?---
Lord knows what kind of zoo it might be, since X-96 has been promoting the event, but Social Distortion is playing a free unplugged set at the Poplar St. Pub Thursday at noon. If you're a downtown denizen or just a big fan, consider heading to the pub for some grub and a little "Ball & Chain." Otherwise, Social D, Lucero and Frank Turner are playing tonight at Saltair, at a show that should appeal to old-school punks, hot-rod honeys and Americana fans alike.
Musically speaking, a couple of other worthy options. Former Utahn Sarah Sample (pictured) will be playing lots of tunes from her new album, Someday, Someday, at a gig at Pioneer Hall Thursday night. And Argentine rockers Los Enanitos Verdes headline what is sure to be a great show at Karamba.
For some non-music fun, perhaps some extreme filmmaking is order. Telemark Skier magazine is in town for a screening of The Freeheel Life 2: Hippies, Punx & Misfits at Brewvies.
Finally, the Main Library is hosting a panel discussion that is sure to be boisterous at 7 p.m. The featured topic? From Arizona to Utah: State Enforcement of Federal Immigration Laws.
