The Ching Farm Animal Rescue and Sanctuary  is holding its 2nd Annual 5k/10k run to benefit orphaned animals. Especially critters evacuated from the Herriman fire---

It’s a little late to register for the race but the public is welcome to come learn more about the Ching Farm, cheer on runners and take part in a raffle including prizes from businesses like Avenues Yoga, Este Pizzeria, 24 Hour Fitness and more, with proceeds helping cover costs of care and medical attention provided to animals rescued from the Herriman fire.

Saturday, Oct. 2 race starts at 8 a.m., drawing at 9:30 a.m., Memory Grove, 300 Canyon Road, Salt Lake City

This Sunday, is also Gandhi’s birthday party--I know it comes earlier and earlier every year doesn't it? Come celebrate with local peace activists and members of the public looking to enjoy, food music and the chance to get their satyagraha on.

At this even the son of peace activist Peggy Christensen will be accepting an award for his late mother’s work with the Beyond War movement that was influential in the fall of the Berlin Wall. The day’s festivities will include youth dancers from India, a performance by singer-songwriter Anke Summerhill, a tree planting service and birthday cake courtesy of the Gandhi Alliance for Peace.

Sunday, Oct. 3, 4 p.m., Jordan Park, 1060 S. 900 West
