No doubt you've seen plenty of painters try their hand at capturing Mt. Olympus, to varying degrees of success.---

One of Wednesday's free entertainment highlights is going down at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, where Donna Poulton, the museum's Curator of Utah and Western Art, will lead a discussion called Painting Utah's Mount Olympus, in which she'll delve into some of the curious characters that attempted to capture Salt Lake City's most notable peak on campus, like David Meikle, who did the pictured version in 2003. The talk is at 6:30 p.m., is free to the public and takes place in the UMFA auditorium.

Wednesday is also the day the Utah Pride Center hosts its 2nd annual National Community Center Awareness Day as part of "an effort to promote the services offered by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer centers in Salt Lake City and nationwide." Here in Salt Lake, that means a community project in the morning benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Great Salt Lake Capitol West Club, a mayoral proclamation from SLC big dog Ralph Becker recognizing that "Sept. 15 will henceforth be known as Annual LGBTQ Community Center Awareness Day in Salt Lake City."

You can join the festivities by visiting the Utah Pride Center, 355 N. 300 West, during an open house from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.--an open house that happens to include a chili cook-off between Utah's prominent LGBTQ organizations including: The Utah Pride Center, Equality Utah, People with AIDS Coalition of Utah, the Utah AIDS Foundation, Human Rights Campaign, Human Rights Education Center of Utah and Café Marmalade. The chili will be sold for $3 a bowl, and the "winning" organization will keep the proceeds.

Finally, when you're done downing chili, head on over to The Urban Lounge for '80s synth-pop heroes Modern English, who are touring in support of a new album, Soundtrack. But let's face it: Most of us will simply be waiting to hear the band's signature tune, "I Melt With You." The show starts at 9 p.m.
