It’s Friday. You could go to the bar and drink yourself into a stupor, or you could go watch a spandex-clad David Bowie in one of the most iconic flicks from the 1980s. ---

The ’80s. The decade of MTV and many fashion faux pas like shoulder padding, fingerless lace-gloves and too much hair spray. However, it was also a great decade for movies. Prime examples of this would be Pretty in Pink, The Princess Bride and in this particular case, Labyrinth.

It was one of Jennifer Connelly’s first movies and one of David Bowie’s best roles. Connelly plays Sarah Williams, an unhappy but imaginative teenager. One night while babysitting, Sarah makes a wish that sends her into the Labyrinth to rescue her brother Toby. Meanwhile Jareth, the Goblin King played by Bowie, sits in his castle that is strategically placed in the center of the maze, with baby brother on his lap. He watches Sarah and the clock, all whilst in very tight pants.

So you could go clubbing, or enter a world of perverse fantasy where David Bowie lords over Jim Henson Muppets. Don’t forget to factor in Jareth’s intriguing and controversial bulge that has sparked many a conversation.

Century 16 Theatres, 125 E. 3300 South, Midnight, $5
