Pee-wee Goes to Sturgis!

Oh, life! Will you never cease to imitate art? As it turns out, Paul Rubens -- in character as the dauntless Pee-wee Herman -- is slated to attend --- the 70th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Aug. 8-9 at the Legendary Buffalo Chip.

I love Pee-wee and I don't care what anybody says. His deliriously wacky '80s stage production The Pee-wee Herman Show was the acme of high camp (it featured, among others, Lawrence Fishburn as Coyboy Curtis, a pre-Law & Order S. Epatha Merkerson as the Mail Lady, and the late, great Phil Hartman as Captain Carl). Rubens followed up the Hollywood success of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) with a Saturday-morning TV show supposedly for children. Pee-wee's Playhouse was so brilliant and groundbreaking, though, it ended up being one of the only kids' shows from the era that could be enjoyed equally (or even more!) by adults.

According to Legendary Buffalo Chip proprietor Rod Woodruff, "I just knew instantly that having Pee-wee at a real biker party presented a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of the hundreds of thousands of riders who will pass through The Buffalo Chip’s Iron Gates this summer."

Pee-wee and his fans apparently will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest tequila dance or something. So if you're riding your Harley out to Sturgis this year, remember to keep the shiny side up -- and bring your big shoes!

(Thanks to Randy Rasmussen!)
