Another major Salt Lake City arts facility is under new management. This time, it's the Utah Museum of Fine Arts introducing a new -- well, sort of new -- executive director. ---

On July 28, Gretchen Dietrich was officially announced as the new executive director of the UMFA, a position in which she has served in an interrim capacity since April 2009. A national search committee determined that the person currently occupying the chair was the best woman for the job, based (according to a press release) on "her articulate and ardent vision for the UMFA in its dual role as both a university and a state art museum." The 42-year-old Dietrich has a 20-year career in the museum field, including stints as director of education at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, Conn. and as executive director of the Utah Museums Association. The appointment is pending approval of the University of Utah's Academic Senate and Board of Trustees.
