The Salt City Derby Girls' all-star Shakers face their toughest opponents of the 2010 season tomorrow, July 10: Phoenix's Arizona Roller Derby, one of the oldest established women's flat-track roller derby leagues in the country. ---

Rolling since 2003 (two years before SCDG was formed; two years after the original derby revival in Austin, Texas), AZRD is currently ranked 13th in the Western division of the national Women's Flat-Track Derby Association, three slots above Salt City. They also live in a horrible, horrible state, so they'll probably bring that anger and resentment to the Salt Palace track.

In the second half of Saturday's double-header bout, SCDG home teams Leave It to Cleavers (thus far unstoppable this season) and the Death Dealers (nearly the Cleavers' equal in tenacity and speed) face off. Here's hoping the Death Dealers' fan club of burly dudes painted purple finally resurface to cheer them on.

Doors at the Salt Palace (100 S. West Temple) open at 5 pm; first bout begins at 6 pm. Tickets available in advance through SLCDerby.com, SmithsTix and The Bayou ($12) or at the door ($16). Should you miss this or any other Salt City Derby Girls bout (and why would you?), you can read the recap here on Monday or see the entire game on Comcast On-Demand a week or so later.
