Air Supply at Tooele High - No Lie

Did you know that '80s easy-listening icons Air Supply are playing in Tooele Friday night? On the high school's football field? And that advance tickets are only available at Tooele City Hall and the local Macey's? True. ---

The July 2 tour stop--yes, Air Supply still tours, heavily--falls between a string of dates in Singapore and the Philippines and a Saturday casino gig in California. Unless there's been a classic-rock radio ad blitz that I'm unaware of, this Utah show has been promoted in exactly one place: The Tooele City website. It's a very exclusive show, apparently.

Factoids: Air Supply sports a Salt Lake City rhythm section, bassist Jonni Lightfoot and drummer CJ Burton, and founding member Graham Russell has a home in Park City. Far-more-obscure factoid: Air Supply stole CJ from my band, underappreciated noise-metal duo Spork. But I'm not bitter--our 5-6 fans who've been deprived of our bar-clearing genius for lo these many, many months that CJ Spork's been touring the world (and Canada), however, may feel otherwise.

Air Supply 2010 doesn't rely strictly on their '80s hits like "All Out of Love" and that other "Love" song; the band is currently charting their first single in eons, "Dance With Me," from their 35th-anniversary-coinciding new album Mumbo Jumbo. But yes, they also play the oldies, cougars--relax.

Here's a fan clip of Air Supply performing "Lost In Love" and "Dance With Me" in Las Vegas last year (pre-CJ). I'll see you in Tooele, though talks to have Spork open the show have currently stalled between the respective parties' lawyers.
