Bob Lonsberry: Still Gone

You NPR snobs probably didn't notice, but KNRS 105.7 "Family Values" talk radio dumped 10-year talker Bob "Flanders" Lonsberry last week and replaced him with a second (live) feed of Glenn Beck in the morning. ---

Though the shrill, squeaky Lonsberry was promoted as a "local" host, he actually did his show from New York--and he was still as on-top of Utah issues as "real" locals like KSL's Doug Wright. Unlike Wright, Lonsberry had opinions--sure, they were all batshit crazy (his final being a corporate radio conspiracy agin him), but he did have his Utah followers. In fact, they're staging as rally to bring back Bob this weekend, hence this press release we received yesterday:

"Since KNRS radio station fired Bob and Lee Lonsberry [son of Bob, who worked at the station in SLC] on June 16, many loyal listeners have been calling KNRS in hopes of convincing the radio station to reinstate the Lonsberry Show. Not satisfied with the busy signals or recordings they received from calling the station, a group of frustrated former listeners will rally in protest on Friday and Saturday, June 25 and 26 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Clear Channel Communications radio complex at 2801 S. Decker Lake Dr.

"Within hours of learning the Lonsberry Show had been cancelled, fans started a website at BringBobBacktoUtah.com and a Facebook page, Bring Back Bob and Lee Lonsberry to Our Local Utah Radio!!! [47 strong!], as places to share their frustrations and post ideas to get the Lonsberry Show back on the air. The website has received over 2,000 hits and led many fans to organize the protest rally.

"'We want to convince Clear Channel Communications that Bob and Lee Lonsberry have many loyal fans and that the radio station will lose a significant portion of their listeners without the Lonsberry Show,' said Tom Copeland, a South Jordan spokesman for the website. “We won’t stop protesting, won’t stop calling, won’t stop boycotting KNRS advertisers until this is fixed.'"

Since Lonsberry's former middling ratings have probably already been dwarfed by those of another block of loon du jour Glenn Beck, don't count on it. Besides, aren't there at least six other conservative talk-radio stations in this market? Maybe the Bring Back Bob crowd would do well to concentrate their, er, passion on those outlets.
