If you’re still sick of the slick in Red Butte and Liberty park, there’s a new person you can turn to for questions and concerns.---

Robin Carbaugh, a long-time neighborhood activist and board member of the U.S. Green Building Council, will be acting as city ombudsman, charged solely with keeping residents up to date on Chevron’s oil spill response. As a community leader, Carbaugh’s role will be to watchdog Chevron’s clean up response, and be a resource citizens can turn to for unbiased information about the June 11 spill, when a freak accident was said to have caused a small puncture in an oil pipeline, that subsequently pumped more than 31,000 gallons of oil into Red Butte Creek, Liberty Park and the Jordan River.

“When people call me with their concerns, complaints ideas then I’ll listen to them, I’ll talk with them and I’ll explore options for resolving the problems they bring forward,” Carbaugh says. She says that can mean providing more info to residents, speaking on their behalf to Chevron or trying to setup meetings between residents and Chevron representatives.

As a neighborhood activist, Carbaugh may have feelings about the cleanup response so far, but as an ombudsman she’s not talking about them. “My job is just to continue to listen, and be impartial and fair. The primary thing that’s important to what I’m doing is that it’s confidential.”

For residents looking to talk confidentially with Carbaugh, she can be reached at 801-870-1428 or via e-mail at ombudslc@gmail.com
