Utah: Aren't We Romantic?

The sentimental souls among you might go all gooey to discover that Salt Lake City ranks among the top 10 most metropolitan areas in the United States for romantic souls. On the other hand, you might be a bit perplexed at the criteria for judgment. ---

Amazon.com today released a list of the Top 20 Most Romantic Cities in America -- and not surprisingly, since this is a list compiled by an online retailer, it has less to do with the places themselves than with what people are buying in those places. Per capita sales data were compiled for, and we quote "romance novels; sex and relationship books; romantic comedy DVDs; ... sexual wellness products [!!]" and -- we're not making this up -- "Barry White CDs" since Jan. 1, 2010. Alexandria, Va. (#1) helps prove that Virginia is, in fact, for lovers, followed in order by Miami; Cambridge, Mass.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Berkeley, Calif.; Gainsville, Fla., and Arlington, Va. SLC hit #8 on the charts.

The statistically curious among us will wonder how those various categories break down. Are we considered romantic because our repressed populace is stocking up on sex toys? Or are we hanging out around the house watching When Harry Met Sally and listening to "Can't Get Enough of Your Love"?
