If You Don't See These X-Dance Films, You'll Be Sorry

In it's 10th year, X-Dance has been showing adrenaline pumping, hard-knocking, extreme actions sports since last Thursday in SLC at Off Broadway Theatre (272 S. Main Street, 801-355-4628). If you don't know this festival,it's time to get schooled.--- Art Director Kate Wheadon said this is one of the few officially Redford-sanctioned fests happening during Sundance season. When Sundance Film Fest was just a fledgling Wheadon's brother and some other folks working at Sundance Ski Resort thought there was a niche that needed to be met, so they went for it—it's been a success ever since. X-Dance is enticing if you're a fan of action sports, are an athlete or admire seeing people risk life and limb. Plus, it's much more manageable that Sundance—so, take advantage. Check out as many outlandish movies as possible. You can choose from x-treme motorcross, snowmobiling, surfing, skiing, etc. If you can only make it to a few, see these shows (press release listed below):

Sea of Darkness

    A modern day pirate tale concerning the ship The Indies Trader and the men who sailed it …A tale of exploration ,adventure, and the discovery of jungle surf spots off the remote Indonesian coastline  in the 1970’s…The smuggling missions that funded these journeys of discovery and the terrifying price some of these men paid for their passion…This film charts the story of a dynamic

Everyday is a Saturday

    Everyday begins with a process, even on a Saturday.  This season Poor Boyz brings you a candid account of what it takes to get from point A to point B.  “Everyday Is A Saturday” will bring the entirety of the sport into light.  Whether it’s waiting for that bluebird day to come or countless training sessions before a competition, Poor Boyz aims to provide a chronicle of each process, from the mental standpoint to the prearranged state of bliss.  Any skier knows that feeling, to work hard, play hard and share epic days like “Everyday Is A Saturday,” just out skiing with friends.

Fiberglass and Megapixels

    This film sheds light on Hawaii's North Shore winter surfing scene and finds the true beauty within the over crowded image gathering free for all. The surfing industry relies on these inspiring pictures from Hawaii to sell the surfing lifestyle and Fiberglass and Megapixels goes deep as top surfers, photographers and cinematographers share their perspective on what it takes and what it means to get the shot and live the surfing dream.  Total run time:  48 minutes.

Red Bull Project X

    In the winter of 2009, deep in the backcountry of Colorado, Shaun White and Red Bull embarked on a project like nothing the snowboard world had ever seen.

    A backcountry Super Pipe was sculpted out of the rugged San Juan Mountains, becoming the foundation for a training ground that would test the limits of both man and machine. 
Completely hidden from the outside world, it would become a session that would redefine the progression of snowboarding …this is Red Bull Project X.
