Thought you'd heard the last local roller derby news of 2009? Not quite: There are three events this month, even though they're not competition bouts. Oh, and Whip It is at Brewvies--had to get that in.---

Tonight, Ogden's Junction City Roller Dolls are holding 2010 Season tryouts at Classic Skating in Layton (867 N. Angel St.) at 9 p.m. Ladies (and those not-so-ladylike) 18-and-up can bring their own quad gear or rent at the rink. The JCRD are also hosting a fundraiser party on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Kamikazes in Ogden (2404 Adams), with music by Bomber and some Salt Lake band called Spork.

Also on Saturday, Wasatch Roller Derby is holding tryouts at 10 a.m. at Hollywood Connection in West Valley City (3217 Decker Lake Drive) for women, and a potential new men's league--the skating dudes no longer have to relegated to referee duty, apparently. Bring pads; skates can be rented.

But there's more: On Wednesday, Nov. 11, as well as Wednesday, Dec. 16, the Salt City Derby Girls will host Skate With a Derby Girl nights 7-9 p.m. at Classic Skating in Sandy (9151 S. 255 West), wherein the public can meet and skate with the SCDG, inquire about 2010 tryouts (coming January) and ask the national Women's Flat-Track Derby Association members anything--you know, like how the hell the game works, the best methods for soothing fishnet rink-rash, etc. Cost: $5, plus skate rental.

Maybe by next spring, this could be you:
