New Music Tuesday!

Rocktober might refer to the host of live shows headed our way, but music on the studio-recordings front is no sloppy seconds. My pick of the week is an understated gem by Lee and Willbee--- - and not because one-third of the group once rounded out City Weekly's ace production crew. Their stunning new record North Carolina (Lost in the Woods) is a collection of delicate organic/electronic material that's vaguely reminiscent of Why? and Pinback - dreamy and odd, fond of experimenting with sound and the sticky icky. Truly beautiful. The fact that they managed to pull this off with members based in Salt Lake City, Chicago and Seattle makes North Carolina all the more impressive.

Day of Sunshine - Lee and Will... Also out today, The Flaming Lips, our favorite regular ol' psychedelic Joes from Oklahoma continue to release tripped-out space jams in the form of Embryonic, Echo & The Bunnymen return with an album they started recording in 2007, Shelley Short continues to haunt and entice with the curiously misspelled A Cave, A Canoo, and much, much more.
