Looks like Aimee Mann's performance at The State Room is sold out - that's one less concert vying for your attention this fine October evening. Our suggestion: hit up Slowtrain (221 E. Broadway) at 7 p.m. for a free, all-ages sneak preview of Will Sartain's forthcoming CD release gigs (Oct. 17 and Oct. 24). His new album is arguably his best - an ode to heartbreak and picking up the pieces one sad, beautifully orchestrated song at a time.---

Later, head to Urban Lounge for City Weekly's pick o' the month, Yo La Tengo. You can read all about one of Brian Staker's favorite indie groups - and Hoboken's finest - here.

Also tonight, hey look! It’s Sean Tillman, aka Har Mar Superstar, back from a wise retreat from the spotlight. If he was growing tired of his stage persona, it was only a matter of time before we couldn’t stand the humorously grotesque/ flamboyant R&B singer. His new album, The Handler, features a rather random cast of collaborators, including P.O.S., Greg Kurstin (The Bird & The Bee) and Adam Green (Moldy Peaches), among others. The jams are smooth, but this is one act who takes things to a whole other level live. Catch him at Club Vegas.
