That means Wasatch Roller Derby (locals) vs. Wreckin' Roller Rebels (from Denver), tomorrow 4 pm at the Taylorsville Rec Center (4948 S. 2700 West). This is the WRD's final bout of the 2009 season and, yes, Rec Center. ---

A couple of caveats for roller-derby regulars: Taylorsville has extremely limited seating, and serves no beer (there is a soda vending machine, however). On the upside, WRD has a talented pool of skaters, and WRR bills themselves as a "recreational league," so who knows what they'll be bringing.

Says WRR, "This league is for ladies who want to play roller derby, but lack the time and/or skills to play with a traditional league in Denver--although don't confuse recreational with laid back, we still play to win!" So they're either under-practiced, or just itching for a fight after a week of hauling the kids around in the minivan. Wildcard!

This isn't the last roller derby game of the local season, however: Ogden's Junction City Roller Dolls will hold their '09 finale on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Layton's Davis Conference Center (7 pm), while earlier the same day, the Salt City Derby Girls will stage a Whip It-inspired "Be Your Own Hero" expo bout outdoors at the Gallivan Center in downtown SLC (3 pm).

If you haven't seen Whip It yet, go. It's fast, fun and roller-derby approved; best described by the Deseret News' Jeff Vice as "Slap Shot and Juno had a baby."
