The Rookie: Eric Maynor

There are over 300 college teams in Division I NCAA basketball with at least 12 players on each team. There are also Divisions II and III and each consists of thousands of players. There are only 30 teams in the NBA with 12 to 15 players, which means, there are 360 to 450 players in the league. You do the math.
The truth of the matter is, no matter how overpaid you may think these players are, they really are something special. These are men who have worked their entire lives to be able to play a game for a living and make a lot more money doing something they love than we do at our jobs that we hate.
New Utah Jazz pick Eric Maynor accomplished just that. On June 24 he was selected 20th overall in the 2009 NBA draft. He is a 6’3” point guard and played college ball at VCU. If you look him up on YouTube you’ll see clips of him firing up an upset against Duke in the 2007 NCAA tournament. His playing style is similar to Deron Williams and he could definitely be a good addition to the Jazz.
Throughout the season I will be following Eric as he goes from big man on campus at VCU to the bottom of the food chain in the NBA. We’ll get to see how he develops as a player while he suffers through rookie hazing. I’ll post each week and give you an inside look at the beginning of his career in the NBA.
