Blockbuster has seen the future of home movie-viewing ... and brick-and-mortar retailers ain't part of it. ---

In a story running today in Variety, Blockbuster Inc. announced that it may be closing as many as 22% of its retail movie-rental outlets, continuing a transition to the self-help kiosk model pioneered by Redbox. Blockbuster has seen its once dominant grip over the home DVD-rental market loosen considerably thanks to inroads by Redbox and Netflix.

Is anyone sorry to see the good ol' "video store" become a dinosaur, in the same way that the record store has? With directly downloaded or home-delivered entertainment becoming the norm, is anything lost?
