I'll always have a soft spot for Phish. Even if I never listen to another of the Vermont jam-band's tasty licks, they'll still be the first band I saw live without a parental unit by my side. Aw, Phish and homemade vegan burritos paired with the stench of dank weed...---

Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney and NPR fame recently embarked on a quest to get to know the band that everyone loves to slam but whose work most of those critics haven't bothered to listen to. Her journey is pretty hilarious and worth checking out.

Here's a track off Phish's new release, Joy.

Kill Devil Falls - Phish

I kind of wish Polvo had popped my concert cherry. The noisy guitar heroes are back with a new album, In Prism. Crank up this monster jam on your next big run/bike ride/trip to the kitchen to grab more beer.

Beggar's Bowl - Polvo

And don't forget Yo La Tengo's Popular Songs. The beloved trio will be in town at the Urban Lounge Oct. 12

Avalon or Someone Very Similar...

Other LPs worth picking up: Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Mayer Hawthorne's Strange Arrangements, Os Mutantes' Haih Or Amortecedor (first release in 35 years!!) OH! And this band called The Beatles are releasing a gigantic box set. Their Rock Band debut hits stores tomorrow.

Now, get thee to a local record store!
