The breaded "chicken" sandwich at Salt Lake City's Vertical Diner, a vegetarian restaurant on south West Temple, is one of the 10 best chicken-substitute sandwiches in America.

That's according to VegCooking.com, and amplified by PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

VegCooking.com's description of the breaded chicken sandwich makes me hungry:

The Breaded Chicken Sandwich is served on French bread, 7-grain bread, or a tortilla wrap and comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, and Vertical Sauce, with a choice of tortilla chips or carrot sticks.

If you ask X96 Radio From Hell's Bill Allred, he would probably advise you to substitute the carrot sticks for fries, which he has listed as among the best in town.

Ian Brandt, owner of Vertical Diner and Sage's Cafe, has also been named "Best 'Green' Thumb" by City Weekly for his humble-price, fresh-food menus. The breaded chicken sandwich is $6.75.
