Summer DVD releases continue to be dominated by the early-2009 burnoffs: the dud remake Race to Witch Mountain; the botched attempt to revive the "fill-in-the-blank from hell" genre in Obsessed; cliche Sundance-pedigree "edginess" in The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. --- Yes, yes, there are always TV series compilations, like Season Two of Flight of the Concords. We roll with movies on this blog.
Maybe it's worth taking a shot at The Soloist, the fact-based story of a reporter (Robert Downey, Jr.) becoming emotionally involved in the story of a homeless, mentally ill but classically-trained musician (Jamie Foxx). I missed it myself while on a brief holiday during its release earlier this year; word of mouth was somewhat mixed. Maybe for this week, I'll be racing out to rent right along with the rest of you.
