It's been a while since we've had a well-intentioned but thoroughly wrong-headed statement of protest against a movie. But your wait is over! ---
Author and activist Kim Michele Richardson is among the adoption advocates laying into Warner Bros. for it's upcoming release Orphan, in which a couple makes the mistake of bringing home a creepy kid. Richardson -- whose recent memoir The Unbreakable Child described her experience being abused by caretakers when she was in an orphanage -- states that "Warner Bros. [is] making 'orphan' the dirtiest word in the lexicon," and calls the film's tag line ("There's Something Wrong With Esther") "demeaning."
Congratulations on drawing attention to a movie otherwise likely to have been ignored and forgotten before Labor Day. And also on using your tragic personal situation to make "orphanage" a dirty word.
