Kick off the work week right with performances by two locally made groups, one of which operates in Colorado but maintains a firm connection with the singer's SLC hometown.

Utah's Lord Mandrake are old souls housed in youthful bodies making slightly melancholy, slightly mischievous music. They recently released The Best of All Possible Worlds, an album that speaks to a generation raised on Wes Anderson, McSweeney’s and similar post-modern irony. The LP is equally seeped in classic folk and psychedelic rock, with lush piano crashing down around teeth-baring lyrics. Own a bit of the magic by picking up a copy tonight when Lord Mandrake performs as part of Slowtrain’s Local Night series. 221 E. Broadway, 7 p.m. All-ages. Free.

Follow up the in-store performance with Ukelele Loki's Gadabout Orchestra. As a former member of Utah’s counterculture, Aaron “Ukulele Loki” Johnson takes pride in his “out-there” art—from vaudeville sideshows and burlesque performances to his current gig leading a Denver chamber-pop sextet whose celebratory show draws on tuba to ukulele to summon nightclub bacchanalias not unlike those of on-the-cusp indie collective Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros. The Orchestra’s SLC stop won’t feature any midgets or sword swallowers, but it will channel the spirit of Bill and Nada’s in a tribute to the fallen diner. The Urban Lounge, 241 S. 500 East, 10 p.m.
