So
Summer of Death kicked off today, but looking outside you wouldn't
know it.
--- Yeah,
that was pretty much the scene most of the day. A lot of the skaters
got fed up with waiting and decided to board in the rain. Taking
their share of spills and crashes and they slipped across every
wooden ramp. And the bar... let's not talk about the results from the
bar.
Eventually
it let up in time for the 17 & Under division to get underway.
Not as many this year as last, but still a good showing from kids who
were willing to take risks.
But
of course as soon as the kids got their skills on, the rain started
to our again. Many sought refuge under tents, while some of the wiser
folk made their way into Burt's which had been opened up and
converted into a Natty Light lounge.
With
on and off downpours the 18 division was pushed back past 6PM, at
which point I had to bolt. But a lot of awesome shots which you can
check out here, two of which I almost took a skateboard to the
face... try to guess which ones. And many thanks to the people over
at SLUG and all who showed up in the rain. Awesome day.
Coming
up the next few weeks I'll have Gallery Stroll coverage, writer Carl
Joglar, a podcast, a comic writer, and four band interviews along
with pictures from the Utah Arts Festival. And as I plan the month of
July out, as always, we'll see what happens.
