Some artists are content to let the slings and arrows of critics to wash over them. And some are prepared to go down only if they're gonna go down swinging.

On June 15, The Salt Lake Tribune published a review of SB Dance's new original production Drosselmeyer, Inc. after attending last weekend's invitation-only premiere. The piece, written by Kathy Adams, was far from complimentary.

The production's creator, Stephen Brown, was not amused. In an open letter published on the SB Dance site, Brown laid on the sarcastic compliments. Alternately referring to Adams as "Casey" and "Christy," he found plenty to say about the author's conclusions. The gauntlet has been thrown down. Whose verbal smiting will stick?

Check out the June 18 issue of City Weekly -- available tomorrow -- for a preview of this weekend's run of the production.
