Step Off the Mound

After spending a little over a week in NYC, or enough time to burn through a second airline size bottle of hand sanitizer, I realized a few things:
  • Murray’s Bagels does NOT toast bagels, moron.
  • There is at least one guy in Brooklyn Heights who is very proud of the fact that he can spell “dog.”
  • You can get 2 kinds of breakfast in NYC. The quick bagel nosh and coffee (or tea but they incessantly ask if you want milk) or the sit down over priced foofty eggs benedict type of breakfast that takes an hour and costs $20.
Oh and NYC is 2200 miles from my house.

Three miles from my house is Millcreek Café @ 3084 East 3300 South where you can get a “Millcreek Mound” for around $8 and you can skip lunch altogether.

Two eggs on top of cheese, bacon, sausage & ham, on top of hash browns, with a side of toast. It goes by several different names across the country, as the Grand Slam @ Mama’s in North Beach (SF), and even in SLC as the “Original Roundhouse” at Nick’s Café.

While Alex & Scott from Millcreek Café & Eggworks certainly didn’t invent the dish, they may have perfected it. Anyone can pile potatoes and eggs on a plate, they do it in Manhattan every day. But doing it right makes all the difference in the world.

Also, since this is a sports blog… Game 4 of the NBA Finals is tonight at 7pm.
