Elvis Costello returns with an album of material originally composed for the late, great Johnny Cash. The legendary country artist passed before he had a chance to commit Costello's genius to record, so Costello laid it down himself. The result is Secret, Profane and Sugarcane. Produced by T. Bone Burnett, it sounds like the title suggests. Take a listen

Iggy Pop's Preliminaires is drawing mixed reviews for his attempt to produce a more "mature" and less "raw" piece of work. He might lose some longtime listeners, but he could just easily lasso a few new ones who prefer their music a bit more refined. Check for a full review in tomorrow's City Weekly.
And finally, the glorious Eels. I've been obsessed with this one track off Hombre Lobo since it hit the Interweb last month. "Fresh Blood" is more like Iggy's old stuff in all its primal, lupine glory. The entire LP is well worth picking up.
